About Me

John Hooper: After studying Graphic Design at Camberwell College of Art, John began shooting for Sleaze Nation then Intersection, The Wire and Vanity Fair and more recently Big Smoke (Hip Hop magazine) and FadeAway (Basketball). Inspired by films (favourites include Mean Streets and Brewster’s Millions) and music, John loves collaborations and relishes the opportunity to work with musician, actors and designers. Generally he finds talented people inspirational and feels that within whatever field, if someone is confident and dedicated to their work then almost regardless of the end result, the passion put into something is very powerful. John is currently working on with Michael Moloney on time-lapse film after the success of their work with the If You Could guys over at It’s Nice That, and five years hence, he’d like to be making films and shooting people. Preferred drinking holes include The French House in Soho, and The Flask in Highgate, but you’ll also find John browsing Claire de Rouen Books on Charing Cross Road and Margaret Howell on Wigmore Street. http://runninginheels.co.uk

Quotes.

"If you do not have the innate ability to seek out someone's music on your own and you have to wait for Hollywood to do it for you; then you are some sort of hillside grazer of culture; you are a sheep or a cow what is biologicaly classified as a ruminant. Fuck you!" Rich Hall in Rich Hall's 'The Dirty South'
"If you know exactly what you're going to do, what's the good in doing it?" Pablo Picasso
"...My contest is only with myself to do it right with power and force and delight and gamble." Charles Bukowski
"We always see with memory. Seeing as each persons memory is different we can't be looking at the same things can we? We're all on our own!" David Hockney
“You find your identity in the damage that’s been done to you. Very, very dangerous. You find your identity in your wounds, in the scars, in the places you've been beaten up; and you turn them into medals.” Bruce Springsteen 2009
"Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better." Samuel Beckett
..."they were criticising me for not being genuine because I was changing my style so much and people couldn't comprehend that you could believe what you were doing if you didn't do the same thing over and over again." Neil Young
..."I said yes to everything. So before I knew it I was a very successful commercial photographer... you know why? because I kept saying yes all the time." Ruth Bernhard
